Our photos are the result of anticipating great moments based on our preparation, which is based on our collaboration with you. Knowing a little about you, who you are, your style, and your story helps. If you’re looking for professional headshots, knowing about your business is also helpful.
The first step of our photography process is meeting, either in person or online, for our Consultation to understand your needs and vision. The Consultation usually lasts about an hour and doesn’t count towards your session time. As we get familiar with the scope of work, we’ll be able to talk about pricing for the photography session, digital image and print options, and more.
Throughout the session, we will be reviewing images together to confirm that the session is heading in the right direction, according to your expectations, allowing us to make any necessary adjustments as we go along. The Consultation helps ensure we start on the same page.
A non-refundable deposit is required to book a session, which can be paid at the Consultation.
To get the best images and experience, I like taking various photos close up, mid-range, full body, moving, posing, and so on. Then we have plenty of photos to select from that best communicate your style and fit your needs.
If shoots are on location somewhere, I recommend over-packing for the shoot to ensure you have all of the clothing, accessories, etc., that you think might help your photos. If you're unsure how to plan, I can help you along the way and make suggestions based on my experience.
The most important thing to remember is that the shooting session is collaborative! We want to work together to ensure you have the best experience and amazing results that exceed expectations. The better our partnership, the better the results!
Throughout the photo session, we will review images together to confirm that the session is heading in the right direction. Working together to communicate ideas and expectations is a key part of my work. By the end of the session, you’ll have a good idea about the final images you'd like to keep, even before seeing the final edits.
The balance for the Photo Session must be paid in full before the session begins.
At the end of the Photo Session, we'll have the opportunity to schedule a Selection Session. At the Selection Session, we sit down to look at the best photos and select the ones you'd like to have edited and cropped to your specifications based on your needs. During the Selection Session, we will review your favorite photos and discuss how you'd like them delivered and/or printed.
If you’d like your photos printed, the Selection Session is when you can select the sizes, print material, and printing style from our premier custom printing lab. You can review options to print your photos as standard prints, wall art, in a book, or collectible folio boxes.
We'll walk you through the ordering process, ensuring the work we put into the Photo Session is translated exactly as you envision. At this point, we’ll explain how long the editing process takes so that you know when to expect your final images. Payment for your photos is due at the Selection Session.
No matter which package you're interested in, feel free to bring as many options for clothing as you think might be necessary. Our emphasis is two-fold: That you absolutely love the photos, AND have fun in the process of making them. If you think certain outfits make you look better, feel better, or bring out your alter-ego, then bring it on! We'll go through as many variations as we can within the time allotted in your package. Remember, this is b.Side impressions. We're hoping to think outside of the box to make sure we're capturing you, being you.
If your looking to shoot a "b.Side impressions" version of a professional head-shot, I like the men to have a variety of jacket/shirt/tie combos; and for the women, some options of blouse/dress/jacket combos.
If you wear glasses and have multiple pairs, it helps if you bringing them along in order to figure out their glare factor, and the style that looks best in the overall outfit.
If you have any doubt about whether something will work or not, just bring it. Layers are fantastic. No need to be seasonal; everything from t-shirts, tank tops, to sweaters and light jackets can work. Keep this in mind, the fun you have in this process will connect with the camera, and make these photos all-the-more special in the end. A good photo is one thing. A good photo coupled with a good story and experience, is a whole other thing!
Make-up for the session is not required, but highly recommended for all women. Apply makeup how you normally would, and again, have fun with it. If you think exaggerated makeup would be fun, do it. We'll make it work. If you're looking to emulate a particular style, just make sure that you are settled on that idea.
Remember, I'm a photographer, not a make-up artists. So I like to tell my female clients to be "carefully-creative." For example, keep in mind that, professional photography lighting, will bring out highlights on the skin, more than you think. When applying make-up for highlights, it's helpful to consider how a little bit can go a long way.
Please make sure that your make-up is applied before the shoot so that we don't have to take away from shoot time to freshly apply. We understand that touch-ups might be needed throughout the shoot, but we don't want to eat up time at the beginning with unpreparedness.
I ask that everyone arrive with their hair ready the way you would like to present yourself. Of course, we'll review all of these things and get things settled before we begin, to make sure these factors aren't counter-productive to the overall look, in either a technical or creative manner.
If your ideas require a major overhaul hair/makeup wise (for example, you are naturally curly and want to go straight in some of the shots) there may be an additional charge for time, or we may schedule that shoot separately on a different day, and break up your shooting time. Please be sure to communicate these things prior to your session, so we are all on the same page.
I don't usually recommend makeup on men, unless we're capturing certain special effects/cosplay type stuff. For shoots that might require makeup for men, we can address those things in the Collaboration Process to make sure our approach and lighting are appropriate for your vision. My professional retouching usually covers any issues that may arise skin-wise, so there are no worries in that department.
Facial hair is a common concern for men. For some, the facial hair IS the man! If you’d like to shoot with facial hair I'm happy for you to come in with whatever level of growth you’d like. I'm here to capture your essence and style, so we can use facial hair to either accentuate or tame your ideas. Bring whatever grooming products you’ll need with you to get the job done.
I am normally available for shooting Tuesday through Saturday and usually schedule 1 session per day, starting at noon, unless your photoshoot requires travel. Special exceptions can be made when necessary, especially for engagement and family photoshoots.
If your photoshoot requires more than 1 location or travel outside of a 25-mile radius of Nicholasville, Kentucky, those travel matters, fees, and payment schedules will be discussed in the Consultation portion of the process, before the Photo Session.
I ask that you don't have anything important scheduled before or after your shoot. You don't want to come into the session tired or stressed. Also, you don't want to be shooting with the next thing on the schedule in mind. Not only is it possible that we may need a little more time to shoot or clean up, but that sort of stress can show up in your shots.
A non-refundable deposit is required to book a spot on my calendar. This fee is due after the Consultation part of the process. Once your ideas and needs are communicated, I can quote you accurate amounts associated with your scope of work.
This deposit is due no later than 10 business days before your scheduled shoot day. Your Photo Session will be canceled if your deposit has not been paid.
The balance of your total shooting fee will be due before the beginning of your Photo Session. Your Photo Session will not begin until this portion is paid in full. This fee does not include the cost of any prints or special edits for digital files.
I accept cash, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, as well as PayPal and Venmo. I do not accept personal checks.
